Vom 08. 08. bis 14. 08. 2011 findet der Jazzworkshop im Rahmen des 10. Blueboatfestivals unter der Leitung eines bewährten internationalen Teams statt.

Die Bands und Einzelteilnehmer  arbeiten in gemischten Combos auf unterschiedlichen Leistungsstufen.

Im Vordergrund steht die Improvisation in verschiedenen Stilrichtungen.

Die Workshopsprache ist Englisch und das Equipment ist selbst mitzubringen.

Neben den Festivalbands steht der Workshop auch Einzelteilnehmern offen.

Jeder junge Musiker ist herzlich willkommen, die Welt des Jazz kennen zu lernen. 

Wir wohnen und arbeiten gemeinsam  im "Rügen Surfhostel" auf Ummanz.

Weitere Workshopräume befinden sich in der Nähe.

Die Ergebnisse werden in einer Workshop-Präsentation öffentlich vorgestellt.

Workshop / JAZZCAMP

We have developed our method of teaching jazzworkshops every year at the Blueboat Jazzfestival on Rügen since 2003. The center of our concept is that we view jazz as a musical form of art that utilizes improvisation. Besides that, specific rhythmic patterns, harmonic and theoretic structures and individual and collective forms of expression also play a part in our courses.

We always start off the day with rhythm training. In rhythm training we are working with several rhythmical aspects such as:

A strong feel of the pulse and time / Steady subdivisions (triplets and 16-notes) /Coordination and independence between hands, feet and voice./ Ability to perform and knowledge about specific rhythmic patterns and claves (we’ve mostly worked with Cuban and Afro claves).

Bands:

Many blueboat workshop participants come to the festival as a part of a band. Since we don’t want to be a “banddoctor” festival where already established bands can come and improve their act, we put together new bands on the first festival day, thereby creating an atmosphere in which the older ones and the younger ones emphatically learn, each in their own way, from playing with each other.This band practice is the main focus in the blueboat festival, and all the other modules are intended to compliment this specific module.

Each teacher has his own team with their own stylistic profile. In the 2007 festival we worked with the following jazz styles:

Freeform jazz

Straight ahead standard jazz

Nordic jazz/Groovy jazz

Funky jazzfusion

The culmination of the blueboat festival is a concert presentation of the work we have done during the week with the workshop participants in these blueboat workshop bands. 

Theory

This module is divided into 3 levels and gives the workshop participants a chance to ask the teachers about all the theoretic problems connected with playing over changes in a jazz setting. This module also covers basic ear-training.

Jam

The jam is the heart and soul of the Blueboat workshop. This is where everybody can play with everybody. The workshop participants in general, finds it very stimulating to get a chance to play with their teachers and each other in front of an audience, and we think this is the one place in the festival where the workshop participants have the chance of learning the most. Good musicianship apparently rubs off!

The jam also compliments our idea of the Blueboat festival first and foremost as a social cultural event!

Parallel zu den Events des Festivals werden im Workshop die Fähigkeiten beim Improvisieren in Combos in verschiedenen Stilrichtungen entwickelt. Das professionelle internationales Dozententeam präsentiert eine Mischung aus unterschiedlichen Stilrichtungen, untersetzt mit Erfahrungen, die sich aus der Zusammenarbeit mit bekannten Größen des Jazz,  aus Reisen, experimentellen Bandprojekten und nicht zuletzt aus dem Studium in verschiedenen Ländern zusammensetzten. FAst alle Dozenten waren einmal selbst Blueboat-Teilnehmer. In der Regel besuchen alle Bands auch den Workshop. Sie arbeiten jedoch in neuer Zusammensetzung, hinzu kommen Einzelteilnehmer.  Hierbei arrangieren wir für jedes Instrument. Bei den Einzelteilnehmern werden besondere Vorkenntnisse im Jazz nicht zwingend vorausgesetzt, jedoch erwarten wir das Beherrschen von Instrument und Noten. Jeder wird entsprechend seines Leistungsstandes gefördert und nimmt sein Erfolgserlebnis nach Hause mit.
